Breeding Agreements

Create and manage formal breeding agreements between dam and stud owners.

What a Breeding Agreement Is

A Breeding Agreement is a formal record within Prized Lines that documents the agreed terms between a dam owner and a stud owner. It provides a structured record of the deal type, service type, timing, and any financial or offspring arrangements.

Creating an Agreement

To create a new Breeding Agreement, navigate to the Agreements section and select "New Agreement". You will need to specify:

  • Dam Animal: the female animal involved in the breeding.
  • Stud Animal: the male animal involved in the breeding.
  • Deal Type: the nature of the arrangement (see below).
  • Service Type: the method of breeding.
  • Expected Breed Date: the anticipated date of service.

Deal Types

Four deal types are supported:

  • Cash: a straightforward monetary payment from the dam owner to the stud owner for the service.
  • Offspring Back: instead of a cash fee, the stud owner receives a puppy, foal, or calf from the resulting litter or birth.
  • Hosting: the dam will stay with the stud owner for the duration of the breeding period. Additional terms for care and costs may be specified.
  • Custom: a free-text arrangement where both parties define bespoke terms.

Service Types

Four service types are available:

  • Live Cover: natural mating at the stud's location.
  • AI Straw: artificial insemination using chilled or frozen semen.
  • Embryo Transfer: embryo collection and implantation.
  • General Inquiry: an exploratory agreement where the method of service is to be confirmed.

Agreement Status Flow

A Breeding Agreement moves through the following statuses:

  • Draft: the agreement has been created but not yet submitted to the other party.
  • Countered: one party has proposed amended terms. The other party must accept or counter again.
  • Accepted: both parties have agreed to the terms. The breeding can proceed.
  • In Progress: the breeding service has commenced.
  • Completed: the service has been successfully completed and recorded.
  • Disputed: one or both parties have raised a dispute regarding the terms or outcome.

Linking an Agreement to an Accepted Match

If you initiate a Breeding Agreement from a match that has been accepted, both animals will be pre-populated in the agreement form. This is the recommended workflow as it links the agreement to the original match request and chat thread.

Counter-Offering and Negotiation

If the other party disagrees with the proposed terms, they can submit a counter-offer with revised conditions. The agreement status will change to "Countered" and the original proposer will be notified to review the new terms. This process can continue until both parties reach an agreement or one party withdraws.

Completing a Breeding Agreement

Once the breeding service has taken place, either party can mark the agreement as Completed. This records the outcome and updates both animals' breeding histories. If a litter results from the breeding, you can link it to the agreement from the Litters section.
