Pedigree Records

Build and view documented ancestry chains for breeding animals on the platform.

What Pedigree Records Are

Pedigree records document the verified ancestry of a breeding animal. Within Prized Lines, each animal can be linked to its sire and dam, forming a traceable ancestry chain. This information is central to assessing genetic compatibility and breeding value.

Linking Parents

When creating or editing an animal listing, the Lineage step allows you to search for the sire and dam by name using an autocomplete field. If the parent is registered on the platform, selecting them creates a verified link between the records.

Linked animals display their relationship in the pedigree tree view, and the connection is visible to users with appropriate access to both records.

Adding Pedigree Entries Manually

For historical ancestors that are not registered on the Prized Lines platform, you can add manual pedigree entries. These are recorded as name-only references without a linked animal profile. Manual entries allow you to document multi-generational ancestry even when earlier generations predate the platform.

Pedigree Tree View

The pedigree tree is accessible from an animal's full profile page. It displays ancestors in a branching structure, showing sire and dam relationships across multiple generations. The tree uses subdued connecting lines in keeping with the platform's design conventions.

Registration Numbers and Titles

Each animal record includes fields for the official registration number issued by the relevant breed society, as well as a titles field for recording competition results, championships, and distinctions. These details are displayed on the animal profile and contribute to the completeness of the pedigree record.

Public Pedigree Access

Pedigree records for animals with a Public visibility tier can be viewed by any signed-in user, including those on the Free plan. Pedigrees for animals with higher visibility tiers are subject to the same access rules as the listing itself.
